Anne Beentjes (1985) is a photographer from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In 2006 she obtained the Bachelor of Arts from the University of Amsterdam after studying Media and Culture. In 2014 she graduated from the Fotoacademie Amsterdam with a specialty in documentary photography and portraiture
From 2016 to 2019 Anne was based in Mexico City. She was invited by the French Alliance of Mexico to expose her work about her cleaning lady, Norma, with whom she lived for a week. This intimate approach of her subjects is typical for the way Anne works. By getting to know ‘the other’ she believes she can enrich her personal view on the world.
In 2016 Anne won third price with the project ‘Anja & Ine’, about a transgender couple in the San José International Photography Competition of Uruguay. In 2018 the museum ‘Memoria y Tolerancia’ presented some of Anne’s photographs of the earthquake that hit Mexico in September 2017.
In 2018 Anne successfully finished the Photographic Production Seminar at the Centro de la Imagen, Mexico. She participated in the final group exposition of the seminar with her project ‘A Strange Invasion’ on a small Mexican town that fell victim to a chemical waste dump.
Her work has been published in The Netherlands as well as in Mexico in different media like the newspaper ‘Het Parool’, FD Persoonlijk, Travesías Magazine and Vice Magazine.
